Head Start

What We Do

We provide free preschool education to children ages 3-5 years old in a nurturing learning environment that includes parents as important resources for their children’s learning. Head Start focuses on the “whole child” and includes the child’s educational, health, family, and social needs.

Head Start is accepting applications for the 2020-2021 school year NOW! Many families who have not been eligible, may be now. Apply today!

Due to state safety mandates, we started the school year remotely. We have many at-home resources available for parents and families. Click below to read more.

View our list of at-home curricula, online parent resources, kids activities and videos to help support you and your family while at home.

We meet the needs of each child and are sensitive to the child’s cultural identity, as well as any health or academic challenges. We can give your child a head start in life.

Head Start 2020-2021 Update

We have all gone through so much since last spring, words cannot express the many challenges and changes we have faced together.  We at Head Start remain committed to bringing you and your children the very best comprehensive services possible at such a time.

While monitoring the number of COVID cases in Lincoln County, we have cancelled our projected ‘soft opening’ of optional in-person classes in December. The hybrid model will be two days in class and two days of virtual learning and/or learning packets, but will be postponed until it is determined safe to resume plans.

Above all, we will follow the CDC, the state and federal guidelines to ensure your family and our team are safe. We will do everything we can to continue to give your child a head start in life!

Every Child is Unique

At Head Start we understand that every child is unique, and that is where we start. We also know that parents and family are children’s’ first teachers, so we work closely with families in the structure of our program and in each child’s individual plan. We consider the “whole child”, their learning styles, their health on all levels, and any special needs they may have. Our program is comprehensive in its approach, understanding that health, nutrition and learning go hand in hand.

Family Involvement and Support

We have a Head Start Policy Council that meets monthly to learn and take part in governance for our program, families are welcome to be elected. There are Family Meetings at each site with a variety of topics of interest to our families. We have one-on-one visits with families at home and at school for individualized care. There is a social network of assistance and support for families within the Head Start parent organization, CSC, as well as the community. Referrals for a wide variety of services and programs are made to help both a child and their family, as goals and needs are identified.
